Director, Sustainable Solutions and Transportation Alternatives

Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission (MVRPC)

The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is accepting applications for a Director, Sustainable Solutions and Transportation Alternatives.

MVRPC serves an innovative multi-county region of approximately one million people in the area surrounding Dayton, OH (southwest Ohio). The agency provides planning services to member jurisdictions, functions as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Dayton area and is the designated Areawide Water Quality planning agency for a five county area. This leadership position is responsible for the agency’s active transportation, human services transportation, and environment programs.

The ideal candidate is personable and outgoing, has experience in the department’s areas of responsibility, and has a successful track record of developing and implementing education and outreach programs for board members, federal, state, and local staff, and interested citizens that achieve agency goals and inform participants. The ideal candidate leads with a strategic mindset, is self-motivated and appreciates ambiguity and limited direction. The successful candidate is responsible for growing the agency’s involvement in sustainability and climate change response initiatives and securing additional funding for this program through grants and partnering with agencies and organizations in the Miami Valley Region.

The position requires thorough knowledge of active, senior, and human services transportation principles and practices including knowledge of related Federal Highway and Federal Transit Administration programs and relevant regulations for urban and rural areas; has a familiarity with Areawide Water Quality planning; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, the general public, partner organizations, and other government officials; fundraising and securing contracts/grants; strong communication, coordination, supervisory and team building skills; ability to effectively handle multiple projects and priorities; skilled in the use of public facilitation; and demonstrates outstanding written and verbal communications.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in planning or related field; minimum of eight years progressively responsible experience in a public environment, transportation, public transit and/or regional planning highly desirable. Demonstrated experience with project management and new program development in the areas of sustainability and environmental issues. Starting salary to be determined dependent on qualifications.
