LEGAL NOTICE OF CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION To establish an eligibility list for the classification of SENIOR CITY PLANNER, an open, non-competitive Civil Service recruitment effort is underway. An employee in this class performs difficult professional and technical work in the coordination and implementation of the City’s planning activities.

Examples of work would include, but not be limited to: * participates in the development of a comprehensive plan and possible update to the City Zoning Ordinance * assists Planning Director with the agendas for Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and other boards as needed by writing, making recommendations and presenting assigned reports to the Planning Commission on a variety of issues, including subdivisions, alley vacations, zoning and ordinance changes and related matters * conducts independent research and prepares and submits environmental reviews for the City’s federally funded programs, including all aspects of the review from beginning to the release of funds * collects, organizes and conducts independent research of social, economic and demographic data, developing statistical reports of census and related data information for the public and individual City Departments * performs related work as required.

Candidates must have three (3) years experience in local government planning activities; and graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with a Bachelor’s Degree in City Planning, Engineering or closely related field. Preferred qualifications for this position include graduation from a college or university of recognized standing with a Master’s Degree in City Planning, Engineering or closely related field.

Selected candidates whose background and work history demonstrate the strongest credentials in relation to position duties will then be invited for an oral interview.
