Transportation Planner - RCRPC Planner II/GIS

The Richland County Regional Planning Commission (RCRPC) is a transportation and land use planning organization that also serves as the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Richland County, Ohio. The primary job objective is to lead and assist in the collection, analysis and reporting of data in support of the work of the Regional Planning Commission and the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)
Essential functions of this Job: Primary GIS representative of the Regional Planning Commission Assist in completing the required elements of the MPOs Overall Work Program. Collect and analyze demographics, traffic-related data, census information and other types of statistics for various systems / programs for regional transportation, land use and comprehensive planning Maintain the online map viewer, GIS files, zoning maps, databases, spreadsheets etc. Create and design quality maps and graphics to supplement technical information Respond to requests for data, maps and information from RCRPC by other agency staff, local officials, and the public
Desirable Qualifications for Employment: Experienced in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) software (ESRI products) Knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of regional transportation planning Ability to work well with and actively listen to the public and fellow staff members Ability to work with relative independence and exercise increased initiative as experience is gained Effective graphic, verbal, numeric and written communication skills Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, geography, GIS or a related field is preferred. 2 years of related relevant experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and abilities required to perform the job.
