Zoning Inspector

City of Troy

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Under general supervision, assists in all phases of the operation of the Planning and Zoning Division, performs related duties; inspection and administration of zoning and code enforcement activities. Assists the public with all planning and zoning related information.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor Degree in Planning, Public Administration or closely related field and/or a minimum of three (3) years of equivalent experience in municipal planning, zoning, or public administration.

                                                           

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists in the administration of City Comprehensive Plan and enforcement of zoning, property maintenance and sign codes; prepares conceptual plans and specifications related to community development projects (i.e., graphic illustration, layout, research of materials, etc.) as authorized by the Assistant Development Director.

Assists in the preparation and revisions of all adopted comprehensive land-use plans of the City.

Attends and participates in meetings as required (e.g., Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, City Beautification, MVRPC, Troy City Council, Troy Main Street, Historical District and others as assigned).

Reviews plans and information for conformance to zoning regulations and answers inquiries about the zoning code such as building setbacks, minimum lot size, number of required parking spaces, sign requirements, zoning appeals, rezoning, annexations, etc., and issues necessary zoning permits for the same as required.

Assists in the enforcement and administration of the property maintenance code and all applicable laws and ordinances of the City of Troy and the State of Ohio and other sections of the codified ordinance as assigned by the Assistant Development Director; makes inspections to insure that all approved plans are in compliance.

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs various public relations activities (e.g., speaking and community events.).

Assists with division administrative duties.

Assists with Engineering Department duties as needed.

Completes other duties as assigned or required by supervisor.

 

LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Ohio Department of Motor Vehicle Operators License.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:  trends in planning and zoning (e.g., local, county, state, and federal); principals of federal and state programs, regulations and laws; City ordinances; county policies; business and industrial trends, municipal government organizations; public relations.

Ability to:  plan, organize and effectively complete the work of the division in a wide variety of administrative and operational duties; establishes and maintains effective oral and written communications; react quickly, calmly and with good judgment; analyze, appraise and organize facts, information, and recommendations; reach sound objective and conclusive decisions; prepare clear, concise and comprehensive reports and presentations; establish and maintain good rapport with associates, officials, news media, citizens.

Skill in: Microsoft Office. Word, Excel, PowerPoint; calculator; graphics (e.g., plans, drawings, etc.).
