Apply to become the Director of Economic Development for one of Northeast Ohio’s most historic and progressive communities. Shaker Heights, among the nation’s first planned cities, continues to plan strategically for its future. This exciting opportunity puts an energetic economic development professional at the helm of the City’s economic development (ED) plan, one that has already attracted new development in the $100M transit-oriented Van Aken District.
The director will continue implementation of the ED plan city-wide as well as in both future phases of the Van Aken District project and new opportunities within the greater district. Act in support of both current and prospective businesses in Shaker Heights. Work with developers and in support of the Shaker Heights Development Corporation. The director serves as a member of the City’s Management Team, joining a group of professional colleagues dedicated to providing an extraordinary community with quality services. Report to the Mayor and the Chief Administrative Officer and supervise a staff of two.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate confidence and a thorough knowledge of economic and community development, have leadership experience, and a talent for developing meaningful relationships with business and community leaders, developers, government officials, and staff. This forward-thinking individual will also possess knowledge of economic development incentives and financing tools, and be a strong negotiator and administrator of comprehensive development agreements. Minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, business administration, marketing, planning, or public administration
- 5 years of economic development experience
- Demonstrated skills and experience in leading commercial and community development projects
