https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/uaoh/jobs/2674274/planning-officer Description JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Under direction of the Community Development Director, provides numerous and varied services to assist residents, contractors, developers, the Board of Zoning and Planning and its committees, City Council, the director of the department, the City Manager and others as required. Reviews permit applications for compliance with the Unified Development Ordinance; attends Board of Zoning and Planning meetings and transcribes meeting minutes; assists customers at the permit intake counter; performs zoning inspections and other duties as warranted. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: For purposes of 42 USC 12101: 1. Researches, writes, and presents staff reports in various formats for the Board of Zoning and Planning, City Council, and other agencies; ensures all notification requirements are met prior to Board of Zoning and Planning and/or City Council consideration for planning-related agenda items; receives planning and zoning related applications and writes agendas for internal, Board and news media use; drafts and reviews meeting minutes; maintains planning database and library. 2. Studies, researches, and drafts legislation of various planning and zoning matters and related issues; analyzes, interprets, and applies City codes as required; drafts reports, correspondence, memos, and other documentation. 3. Reviews all building, sign, fence, and swimming pool permit applications to ensure compliance with zoning code requirements; processes and issues permit and license applications, logs, permits, and collects fees. 4. Responds to local citizens, contractors, developers, and other public officials inquiring about city planning and zoning regulations and ordinances. 5. Maintains licenses and certifications as required, if any. 6. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance at both work and evening meetings. 7. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 8. Performs other duties as required. (5%) Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in City and Regional Planning, Geography, Public Administration or a related field; Master's degree in City and Regional Planning desired; and four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of training, education, or experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Valid State of Ohio Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy; Certified Planner (desired) with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
