This is a full-time position that provides an immediate impact on the Delaware community by maintaining and enforcing zoning and property maintenance codes with our residents and businesses. NATURE OF WORK Under the direction of the Director of Planning & Community Development and with day to day guidance from the Chief Building Official and the Planning & Zoning Administrator, is responsible for performing on-site field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable City zoning and property maintenance codes and supervising Code Enforcement Officer I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -Assist in the enforcement of City Zoning Regulations including enforcement of sign codes, building setbacks, exterior lighting ordinances, landscaping, noise, dust, storage of junk, weeds and high grass and other zoning related issues. -Perform inspections of existing buildings to insure property is maintained to the minimum standard of the City's adopted Property Maintenance Code. -Provide assistance and services related to issuing permits via the City's public counter. Advise public, attorneys and architects of code requirements. -Assist, as needed, in the review of applications for development. -Utilize the City's permitting and enforcement software in performing the functions of the job. -Compile and publish monthly reports of activity to communicate and document the effectiveness of code enforcement activities. -Work with City's legal counsel to prepare, file and attend court hearings to represent the City's interest in non-compliance cases brought before the court. -Supervise Code Enforcement Officer I by overseeing scheduling and prioritizing work assignments, monitoring status of work, coordinate projects, ensure quality performance of all work activity. -Establish effective working relationships with other departments, prosecutors and Judges, home owners' associations, and rental property management companies. -Draft legislation as directed related to code adoption, legislative actions required to perform code enforcement and the like. -Prepare and administer contracts for consultant services to perform code required activities such as mowing, property clean up, demolition, etc. -Suggest process and code improvements to leadership for consideration within department mission and directive. QUALIFICATIONS -Possession of a high school diploma or GED. -Three to five years of high-quality experience in municipal code enforcement. -Team leadership or supervisory experience preferred. -AACE or ICC Zoning and Housing Enforcement Certification preferred but must be obtained within six months of hire date. -Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
