Convention Center District Plan - RFP

Destination Cleveland

Purpose: Provide clarity, organization, recommendations and urgency toward a more formal and defined Convention Center District in Cleveland, Ohio.

Description of Work:

Destination Cleveland is seeking a consultant to follow up on an assessment study done by Convention Sports and Leisure, International (CSL). CSL assessed the area immediately adjacent to the Huntington Greater Cleveland Convention Center and made general recommendations toward unifying this area into a Convention Center District that enhances the user experience.

The study area is roughly bounded by West 3rd Street, Rockwell Avenue, East 9th Street, and the Norfolk-Southern Railroad. It contains the Huntington Convention Center, the Global Center, the four primary convention hotels (Hilton, Westin, Drury, and Marriott at Key Tower) along with important adjacent public spaces and connections.

The CSL assessment suggested several interventions which would unify the area into a coherent district, but which would have to be funded and undertaken by a variety of public and private entities. It did not explore staging, budgeting, or prioritization of the suggested projects.

The selected consultant will be expected to convene a working group of stakeholders from within the district and Downtown Cleveland more broadly. Based on the inputs of the various stakeholders and study of similar projects, the consultant will compile a report that lays out responsibilities, prioritization, and staging of the various recommended projects.

Key Dates:

• Q3 2022 – Stakeholder Engagement, Research, Synthesize Input

• Q4 2022 – Follow-up with Individual Organizations, Draft Final Document

• January 2023 – Deliver Final Report

Submission Guidelines:

By Friday August 26th, please digitally submit to AHarnocz@DestinationCLE.org a packet of no more than 6 pages detailing approach to the work, relevant experience, hyperlinks to similar project documents, estimated project timeline and budget.
