Strategic Planner / Executive Director

Copley Township

Pay Range: $26 - $30/hr

Department: Community & Economic Development
Location: Copley Township, OH
Reports To: Service and Development Director
Employment Status: Part-Time

Position Summary

The Strategic Planner supports the Community & Economic Development Department. This position serves as the Executive Director of the Copley Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) and plays a key role in securing and managing grant funding for the Township. Additionally, the Strategic Planner assists the Service and Development Director with special projects related to planning, economic development, and community revitalization and supports the Township Zoning Inspector with zoning code analysis, updates, land use planning, development review, and related economic development needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Planning & Development

  • Assist in land use planning, zoning, and community development initiatives.
  • Review development proposals and provide recommendations on zoning and land use matters.
  • Support comprehensive planning efforts and conduct research on best practices for sustainable growth.
  • Work with residents, businesses, and developers to facilitate responsible development.

Executive Director – Copley Community Improvement Corporation (CIC)

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction for the CIC.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, including financial oversight, compliance, and reporting.
  • Facilitate property acquisitions, redevelopment projects, and economic development initiatives.
  • Engage with community stakeholders to promote business growth and revitalization.
  • Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, and ensure compliance with CIC bylaws and policies.

Grant Writing & Management

  • Identify and pursue grant opportunities to support community and economic development initiatives.
  • Prepare compelling grant proposals and applications.
  • Administer and track grant funds, ensuring compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Research funding sources and develop partnerships with state, federal, and private entities.

Special Projects & Administrative Support

  • Assist the Service and Development Director with strategic projects that enhance Township operations and services.
  • Conduct research, analyze data, and prepare reports to support decision-making.
  • Coordinate community engagement efforts and public outreach programs.
  • Assist with marketing and communication initiatives to promote Township development projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Economic Development, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Experience in planning, community development, grant writing, or economic development preferred.
  • Experience working with local government, nonprofit organizations, or community development corporations is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of land use planning, zoning, and economic development strategies.
  • Excellent grant writing and grant management skills.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal funding programs.
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and present findings effectively.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS, and planning-related software is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Township officials, businesses, and community stakeholders.

Work Schedule & Compensation

  • Part-time position (approximately 20-25 hours per week).
  • Flexible schedule, with occasional evening meetings required.
  • Compensation based on experience and qualifications.
