Director of Development
City of Sunbury
Pay Range: $85,000
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
The City of Sunbury is seeking a qualified, motivated, and strategic individual to serve as Director of Development. This full-time leadership position is responsible for overseeing the City’s economic development, planning, zoning, building, and code enforcement functions to support orderly growth and strategic business development.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise department staff, consultants, and contractors.
Lead economic development efforts including business attraction, retention, and expansion.
Manage planning, zoning, and permitting processes.
Coordinate building inspections and enforce development codes.
Serve as liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including 2 years in a leadership role.
Knowledge of Ohio zoning law, economic development principles, and building regulations.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
AICP or CEcD certification preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary for this position is $85,000 based on experience and qualifications. This position also includes generous health, dental, vision, paid leave, and retirement benefits.

Sunbury is a rapidly growing community located just 25 miles north of Columbus, Ohio in fast growing Delaware County. The City currently has nearly 8,000 residents and is issuing new residential building permits at a record pace. The City is planning for the construction of a new interstate interchange and parkway that will open approximately four miles of road frontage for new commercial and residential development. Another 1,600 acres of newly annexed land to the east of Sunbury is currently being planned for light-industrial development use. The City is growing in most every direction and dimension and is seeking a qualified Director of Development to assist with its development.
