Planning and Zoning Administrator

City of Gahanna

Pay Range: $66,900-$93,745

Job Summary

Responsible for the administration, interpretation, and enforcement of Gahanna Codified Ordinances, including zoning code and other relevant codes, policies and programs; conducts field inspections; supervises zoning and code enforcement personnel, code compliance activities, and zoning activities.

Starting Salary Range: The starting salary is between the minimum and midpoint of the range ($32.19 per hour - $38.63 per hour). Candidates will start at the minimum of the range unless their skills, experience, education or other factors exceed the qualifications for the position.

Essential Job Functions

Oversees processes for zoning and code enforcement.

Reviews code enforcement operations and functions; implements rental registration.

Reviews and recommends process improvements throughout area of responsibility.

Responsible for interpreting, administering, and enforcing the City’s Zoning Code on applications and permits.

Provides code expertise, interpretation and regulatory guidance related to applications and permits to both internal and external customers.

Assists in the processing of building and zoning applications and permits.

Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with policies, procedures and applicable laws, including: interviewing, hiring and training staff; planning, assigning and directing work; establishing deadlines; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; coordinating, developing and approving staff training; approving leave requests; and addressing employee complaints and resolving problems.

Performs field inspections related to applications, permits, and code enforcement complaints when necessary.

Assists in administrative issues, including but not limited to processing applications and payments for rental registration, responding to resident questions and concerns, generating reports as needed, and other performing other code enforcement-related tasks.

Provide interpretation of applicable codes and act as a liaison with other departments on related activities.

Participates and provides feedback and input related to new code provisions and amendments.

Oversees zoning and code enforcement accounts, deposits and purchase orders.

Assists in the development of the department budget.

** Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is required which may include evening and weekend hours.
